Twenty-eight hectares of paddy land mortgaged by cooperatives in Kedah and Perlis have been successfully redeemed by the Malaysian National Cooperatives Movement (Angkasa) since 2012.

Angkasa president Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah said the initiative would be expanded to assist troubled cooperatives in redeeming their mortgaged land.

"We will get reports from the cooperatives involved and assist them in the matter," he told reporters after closing workshop on enhancing paddy plantation cooperatives in Kedah and Perlis, here, Sunday.

Abdul Fattah said the success of the effort, however, depended on allocations by the government.
He added that thus far, RM2 million had been allocated to assist the Kedah and Perlis cooperatives to redeem their mortgaged land.
