A total of 39 companies comprising retailers, manufacturers and chain restaurant operators have joined the 2015 Price Reduction Campaign to date.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said it also involved the participation of 1,329 branches across the country, offering discounts of up to 87 percent on 487,879 products.
"KPDNKK is always looking for new initiatives to ease the burden of the people and ensuring their welfare. Among initiatives taken is to implement the price reduction campaign, which was launched on March 1 and received a very good response from various quarters," he said when launching the 2015 Price Reduction Campaign for the KK Group, here on Tuesday.
KK Group's executive chairman Datuk Dr KK Chai was also present.
Hasan said the ministry called for more retailers, manufacturers and chain restaurant operators to participate in the price reduction campaign to help ease the people's burden.
Meanwhile, Hasan said that since the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented a week ago, a number of companies participating in the campaign were identified to continue offering lower prices to consumers.
"For example The Store Corporation Sdn Bhd, has extended the campaign for two months which is from April 1 to May 31, offering a total of 401,506 products with discounts of up to 70 per cent involving 74 of its branches nationwide," he said.
Meanwhile, Chai said the participation of KK Supermart Group of Companies in the 2015 Price Reduction Campaign involved 197 branches nationwide offering discounts of up to 87 percent for 245 products.
"Throughout the duration of the campaign we will also absorb the six per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) on goods which are subject to GST. As for top Touch N 'Go cards, we will also absorb the service charge of 50 sen until the end of this year," he said.
