Almost 3,000 former MAS staff register with CDC
The CDC is a training centre set up by Khazanah Nasional Berhad on June 1 this year to assist MAS staff who were affected following the downsizing of the MAS staff by Malaysia Airports Berhad.
The Finance Ministry told the Dewan Rakyat that 2,981 of the 4,000 former staff of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) have registered with the Corporate Development Centre (CDC) up to Oct 16.
The Ministry said in its written reply to Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh (BN-Putatan) of that number, 950 had completed training at the CDC, 271 of whom had been given new jobs, while 630 of them opted to carry out their own business and 49 others chose to retire.
"Ninety-nine of them withdrew from training at the CDC without any reason, making the total number who are still unemployed at 1,932 people," said the statement in response to a question on the total number of former MAS staff who were still unemployed and efforts by the government to assist them in seeking re-employment.
According to the statement, the figure did not include the remaining 1,019 of the total of 4,000 former MAS staff who did not register with CDC.
