Bank Rakyat has invested RM2.59 million in seven mobile bank service units to serve the rural areas, including those in Sabah and Sarawak.
Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, the units would boost the efficiency of banking services.
"The mobile banks can help the public carry out various banking transactions, such as opening savings account, withdrawing money and repayment of loan, and online transaction," he said.
He said this after launching a mobile bank service at Felda Bukit Mendi in Bera today.
Also present was Bank Rakyat chairman Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik and managing director Datuk Yusoff Abdul Rahman.
Ismail Sabri, who is also Bera member of parliament, said the mobile banks had begun operations in Terengganu and Pahang.
"The mobile bank service in Pahang will serve the people in Felda Bukit Mendi, Sebertak, Lanchang and in Kuala Krau," he added.
