Bank Muamalat Malaysia today reemployed three dispatch staff who were retrenched recently, said Chief Operating Officer Haji Peer Mohamed Ibramsha.
He told Bernama that the reemployment was due to an ex parte injunction obtained by the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) which disputed the retrenchment.
"As a responsible corporate entity we abide by the court order, but reserve the right to challenge the order at a hearing scheduled for Sept 2," he added.
Meanwhile, NUBE General-Secretary J. Solomon said the retrenchment was done against the spirit of the collective agreement the union had with the bank.
He hoped the bank would agree to negotiate rather then resort to court proceedings to settle the matter amicably.
