BMW scores double digit growth, retains best selling luxury car crown

BMW is aiming for another double digit growth in 2014, maintaining the record all-time high of 14 percent it managed this year.
In 2013, the group which comprises the BMW, Mini, Rolls Royce and BMW Motorrad brands in Malaysia, delivered a total of 7,974 vehicles, an increase of 986 from the same period in 2012.
This announcement was made at an exclusive business presentation held for the media at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
The main contributors to this year’s success story includes the 3 series, the larger 5 series as well as the compact x3 sports activity vehicle and this is expected to be repeated this year.
The outstanding achievement by the group also reflects the good showing for the company globally with a total of 1,963,798 vehicles delivered, up 6.4% from the previous record year.
The Asia Pacific region, being the second largest market for BMW after Europe, saw a surge of 17.3 percent, bringing the total number of vehicles delivered to 575,616.
Out of the various brand components in the group, Mini showed the most rapid growth at 28.4 percent, undeniable helped by the introduction of the locally assembled countryman, the fifth CKD model offered, which saw a total of 96 units sold in just half a year.
The 6th model to roll off the Kulim plant, the BMW 3GT, was announced at the briefing.
