BR1M more focused for target groups than subsidy

The 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) is better than subsidy as it is more focused for target groups, Khazanah Nasional Bhd's Managing Director Office executive director Datuk Charon Wardini Mokhzani said.

He said the subsidy would benefit more well-off people and businesses than the needy.

"If we want to help people, it's better to give them cash than subsidy as subsidy don't go to the right people," he told reporters after delivering a talk at the Young Corporate Malaysia CEO series here on Wednesday night.

On the Goods and Services Tax, he said its impact remains unclear until a survey on it is released by the Department of Statistics next year.

About 300 people attended the monthly talk series where industry captains share their experience with youths who aspire to climb the corporate ladder.
