The new generation of Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers need to uphold the same pioneering spirit as the first generation of settlers in exploring new fields of economy to keep up with
the changing times, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim.
He said exploring new economic fields was important as the new generation of settlers can no longer depend on forest activities as done by the first generation 58 years ago.
"We can no longer give land to the new generation to explore. So new ways need to be introduced from time to time to protect the interests and economy of the new generation of Felda settlers," he told reporters after officiating the Felda New Generation Convention 2014 here on Friday.
He added that traits such as diligence, persistence, industriousness and courage, which were a part of Felda pioneers, should also be adopted by the new generation.
"Only by having such positive traits will the new generation of Felda settlers be visionary and ready for transformation and innovation," he said.
