Firms urged to register with Matrade to get help in overseas market

Local companies have been urged to register with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) so that assistance and support can be channelled to them especially when venturing abroad.

Matrade Southern Region director, Raphy Md Radzi said only 2,375 companies operating in the region are registered with Matrade, including 1,672 from Johor, 387 from Malacca and the rest from Negeri Sembilan, and they comprise nearly 13 percent of the companies registered with Matrade nationwide.

Local companies should not be too dependent on the local market but should be brave enough to venture overseas, he told Bernama here recently.

They should also have the knowledge and experience to avoid being cheated by a business partner or running out of money too fast, he said.

"Business owners should be careful in a difficult market, especially overseas, and they could learn from companies that have more experience to enable them to widen their markets," he said, citing local firms which have had to pay charges because they failed to register their trademark overseas.

Meanwhile, Matrade Senior Manager (eTRADE, eBusiness & IT) Asnor Vidya Nor Azmi said the coporation provides a range of incentives to promote e-trade in cross-border trade, including up to RM2,500 for small and medium enterprises. - Bernama
