The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) was named the winner of the 'Largest Airport of the Year' award by the Sydney-based Centre For Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), further elevating KLIA's status within the global aviation industry.
The award was presented at the Asia Aviation Summit and Low Cost Carrier Congress, organised by CAPA, in Singapore on Tuesday.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd Managing Director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, who received the award, said it acknowledged KLIA as the fastest growing major airport in the Asia Pacific, reflected through its 19 per cent growth in passenger movement last year.
"In terms of aviation growth, the Asia Pacific region is certainly thriving where half of the world's air traffic growth in the next 20 years is expected to come from within this region," he said in a statement.
Badlisham said Malaysia Airports planned to continue driving innovation and intensify collaborative efforts with airlines and the government in order to bring in more traffic into the country.
