LEGOLAND Malaysia marks first year on successful note

The popular family theme park in Nusajaya, Iskandar Malaysia, Johor which has become a key driver of tourism in southern Peninsular Malaysia, organised an impressive event to mark the occasion.

At one year young LEGOLAND is growing up fast and plans are already afoot to transform it into a resort comprising a theme park, water park and hotel. Special celebrations took place around a giant LEGO cake, which visitors have been helping to build over the past 10 days.

It was made from over 300,000 bricks and measures 3m wide. More than 3,000 park visitors were involved in the building activity that started on Sept 5, 2013.

The birthday entertainment included dance performances, a children's dance party and unique 3D-LEGO fireworks displays, where bricks appeared to be falling from the sky.

A real birthday cake was also prepared for the occasion and slices were available at the Cafe.

Proceeds from the sales of the cake are going to Merlin's Magic Wand, a worldwide charity for underprivileged children.

Siegfried Boerst, General Manager of LEGOLAND Malaysia, said: "We are delighted to celebrate our first anniversary with our guests. It has been an extremely successful year for Asia's first LEGOLAND and visitor numbers have far exceeded expectations.

"In the last 12 months we have added two new attractions and our guests are enjoying the park more than ever. As we celebrate one major milestone we are already anticipating another, because in October we will open our brand new Water Park," he said at the celebration on Sunday in Nusajaya.

Asia's first LEGOLAND Water Park opens on Oct 21, and it is leading the transformation of LEGOLAND Malaysia into a family resort destination with more than 70 rides, slides, shows and attractions.

Annual pass renewals have started online and at LEGOLAND Malaysia ticketing counters, Boerst added.
