Loss of communication between MAHB and owners of aircraft abandoned at KLIA - Aziz Kaprawi
The issue concerning the abandoned aircraft became a hot topic of discussions after MAHB placed the advertisement in local newspapers on Dec 7.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) had to place an advertisement on the three Boeing aircraft abandoned at the KL International Airport because it had experienced a loss of communication with the owners of the aircraft.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said the advertisement was part of MAHB's efforts to locate the owners of the aircraft and to empty the much-needed aircraft parking spaces at the airport.
"The three aircraft had been abandoned since 2010. At first, they belonged to Air Atlanta Icelandic, but the company then sold them to another company and since September 2013, there was a communication loss between MAHB and the new owner as it was a non-operating company.
"So, MAHB had to resort to advertisement. If no claims were made within the next two weeks, MAHB has the right to sell the aircraft," he said when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2016 at the Dewan Negara today.
