Malaysia's export is still very strong with net export and trade balance in the country's favour despite the weakening of the ringgit, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.
He said the country's export target for this year was RM777.96 billion, while export for the first half of the year amounted to RM368.3 billion.
"Malaysia is on the right track to achieve the export target," he told reporters when asked on the impact on the weakening of ringgit on export.
Ahmad Husni was met after the 2016 Budget: Focus Group Meeting On Strengthening Export Performance at the Finance Ministry here, Thursday.
He said the country's export was still higher than imports.
"Export has gone down, import has also gone down. What is good here is that surplus is still in our favour. That means the net export (still in our favour).
"It will be worrying to us if import is higher than the export. But here export is higher than import. That means trade balance is still in our favour," Ahmad Husni further said.
He said the country's export in January totalled RM63.6 billion, February amounted to RM53.2 billion, March (RM66.5 billion), April (RM60.4 billion), May (RM60.5 billion) and June (RM64.3 billion).
