The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) welcomed the call made by the Communications and Multimedia Minister Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek to telcos to reduce prices of communications services, stressing this move will benefit end users in the long term.
MCMC Chairman, Datuk Sri Dr. Halim Shafie said, affordable prices for communication services such as broadband packages will not only ease the burden of the rakyat but also increase the take up hence ensuring the rakyat in particular the lower income group will not be left behind in this digital era.
With affordable price for broadband packages, this will create more demand for content which can help to stimulate the development of the local content industry.
To this end, he added, MCMC will be carrying out a review of retail rates and will work together with the industry to develop broadband packages for the long term benefit of end users.
“MCMC is also planning to have series of discussion with the industry in the second quarter of this year regarding the retail price regulation to ensure that the regulations remain current in view of the fast evolving Communications and Multimedia sector,” explained Dr. Halim.
