Mihas is set to take place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur from April 4-7.
Come April, the world's largest halal business affair will once again take place in Kuala Lumpur. This year, the Malaysian International Halal Showcase (Mihas) is expected to see over 22,000 trade visitors flocking to the event.
Organiser Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) is expected to witness negotiated trade value of over RM1.01 billion. Its Halal, F&B and Agro-Based Unit director, Mohammad Aminuddin Sham Tajudin, is keenly observing the rising growth of this nascent sector.
Matrade's Aminuddin speaking to Astro AWANI's Ibrahim Sani on halal growth
"If we look at Malaysia and the halal sector, the global halal sector is growing tremendously. Muslims constitute 22 percent of the global population and with over two billion Muslims consuming halal products and services, this tells you how big the market is," Aminuddin explains.
"Today, we have 1,400 Malaysian halal exporters but this number is set to grow even more in the near future.
"The halal business is not just big news in Muslim-majority countries but because of the proposition of the halal sector, the business will also grow in non-Muslim countries," he notes.
Traction of halal exports is also set to grow, says Aminuddin, with the number of exporters, volume and value already growing year-on-year.
"As a trade promoter of the nation, Matrade is mandated to push for greater growth in this sector. We've brought Malaysian companies to participate in events all over the world, including Dubai in the UAE and also Germany," he adds.
