MITI to attract RM500 Mill sales during incoming buying mission
The International Trade and Industry Ministry expects to clinch RM500 million in sales during the two-day incoming buying mission (IBM) which began yesterday.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, said the event had attracted strong interest from many countries participating in the World Halal Week 2013.
"The IBM started yesterday and sales so far stood at RM411 million. Today is the second day and we are yet to tally the second day numbers. We expect good figures," he told reporters after launching the four-day World Halal Week 2013.
The forum, hosted by the ministry, will feature concurrent events namely the International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) and the World Halal Week Conference.
The incoming buying mission is an important component of MIHAS and last year the IBM event raked in sales of RM362.63 million.
This year, 345 foreign companies from over 50 countries, which source halal products and services, will be matched with Malaysian companies.
"We are expecting more than 20,000 visitors and are confident sales will continue to be strong based on the overwhelming support received from participating companies both domestic and international," said Mustapa.
He also said Malaysia was on track to achieve the Halal hub status despite facing several challenges.
"We have come a long way. One issue that we are grappling with is supply, not just food but also supply of pharmaceutical products.
"The challenge for us is
