Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has awarded over RM20 billion worth of contracts to build the Sungai Buloh-Serdang Putrajaya (SSP) Line as of June 2016, said its Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations director, Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah.

He said out of the 72 packages, MRT Corp has awarded 16 – seven advanced works package; four viaduct work packages; two designated contractor/supplier packages; and, one each for depot work package, system work package and underground work package.

Najmuddin said for the underground work package worth RM15.47 billion, MRT Corp had awarded it to MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd to build 11 underground stations covering 13.5km of MRT tracks.

He said of the 10 viaduct work package, four had been awarded.

The V201 package, worth RM1.4 billion, has been awarded to Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd to build three new stations from Damansara Damai to Sri Damansara, and the V202 package worth RM1.44 billion to Ahmad Zaki Sdn Bhd to build four new stations from Kepong Sentral to Jinjang, he said.

"The third, V203 package, worth RM1.47 billion, was awarded to IJM Construction Sdn Bhd to build four new stations from Sri Delima to Jalan Ipoh and the V210 package, worth RM648 million, was awarded to MRCB, to build two stations from Cyberjaya to Putrajaya," he said.

Najmuddin said the company undertook a public inspection feedback survey last year.

It attracted 10,000 respondents at 27 different locations and the outcome of it was great whereby 90 per cent gave their support to the SSP Line, he said.

"This shows that the impact of the SSP Line will be massive for the public to commute to the Central Business District with ease," he told a media briefing of MRT SSP line, in Sri Kembangan, here today.

Meanwhile, Najmuddin said, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would officiate the ground-breaking ceremony of the SSP Line by end-August 2016.

The SSP Line will serve a corridor with a population of around two million people stretching from Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya.

It will include Damansara Damai, Jalan Ipoh, Kampung Bharu, KLCC, Tun Razak Exchange, Kuchai Lama, Seri Kembangan dan Cyberjaya.

Phase one of SSP Line, which consists of 12 new stations, is targeted for completion by July 2021. It will run from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu.

The second phase is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2022. It will have 11 underground stations and 26 elevated stations and an expected riderships of 533,000 passengers per day.

Meanwhile, Najmuddin said, to-date, MRT Corp was still in the process of acquiring land for the SSP Line project, which would cover 52.2km.

He said the project would involve the acquisition of 761 pieces of land – 290 government-owned and 471 private.

"We are still in a process of acquiring the land and basically 81 percent of the project's land are government-owned.

"The private land are being acquired through mutual agreement process and land acquisition," he said.
