MRT Corp to submit MRT 3 study to government by year-end

"We started the feasibility study early this year, and hopefully it will be completed by then and we will present it to the Land Public Transport Commission," said CEO Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar.

On the location and the stations of the MRT 3, Shahril said, they were likely to be in the central of Klang Valley as the Circle MRT Line aimed to connect to the existing lines to ease the traffic congestion.

Shahril said this to reporters after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Credit Guarantee Corp and MRT Corp here today.

Also present was International Trade and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

On the cost of the MRT 3, Shahril said, it was too early to calculate as it depended on the land price, alignment, the length and the number of stations.

He said the project was expected to begin as early as possible.

"The sooner you do it, you will know how to manage the cost better," he said.

On the MRT Line 2 project, Shahril said, the groundbreaking ceremony was expected to be held at end of the month or early September.

"So far, we have awarded over 20 packages worth RM24 billion for MRT Line 2 project. At least three or four packages worth close to RM2 billion will be awarded by year-end," he said.

"We will go full force and award at least another 20 packages next year," he added.
