Muhyiddin to attend D-8 Summit 2012 in Pakistan
Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, will represent Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the 8th Developing-8 (D-8) Summit 2012 in Islamabad, Pakistan on Thursday.
Muhyiddin and his delegation are expected to arrive at the Pakistan Air Force Base in Chaklala on Wednesday night.
He will attend the summit session, including the signing ceremony of the D-8 charter later that evening and is scheduled to leave for Kuala Lumpur after the dinner with the delegation.
The summit's theme, "Democratic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity", underlies the importance of democracy as the fountainhead for achieving peace and prosperity for its people and to promote cooperation with developing countries.
D-8 is an organisation to promote development cooperation among the eight countries -- Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
The D-8, set up on June 15, 1997, aims to improve its members' positions in the world economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at the international level, and provide better standards of living.
