Khazanah Nasional Berhad deputy chairman, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, today submitted his resignation from the board of directors, effective this Sept 30.

The resignation was submitted at the 84th Meeting of the Khazanah Board of Directors held today. Nor Mohamed will also vacate the post of Khazanah Research Institute chairman on the same date.

In a statement by Khazanah today, Prime Minister and Khazanah chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said: “I would like to thank Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop for his contribution to Khazanah, in particular for his work on the 10-year Government-Linked Companies (GLC) Transformation Programme which was led by the Putrajaya Committee on GLC High Performance. The Board of Directors accepts his decision and we wish him well.”

Nor Mohamed, 70, had served on the Khazanah board of directors for 15 years, being the longest serving board member and the only deputy chairman in Khazanah’s 23-year history.

Under his leadership, numerous initiatives had seen success including the revamp and transformation of Khazanah from 2004 to date, the 10-year GLC Transformation Programme from 2004 to 2015, the development of various economic corridors such as Iskandar Malaysia, as well as the formation of Yayasan Hasanah and Khazanah Research Institute, among others.

These initiatives and others were executed in his capacity as a Khazanah board member, and in various capacities in public service including as Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister (2000-2003), Finance Minister II (2004-2009) and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Economic Planning Unit (2009-2013).
