KANGAR:The Perlis State Legislative Assembly today unanimously passed the 2021 State Budget.

The Supply Enactment Bill (Budget 2021), which involves an allocation of RM108.17 million, was debated for three days.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man who tabled the budget on Dec 8 said this was the first time in the state's history that the budget was approved unanimously.

“It is quite a challenge to prepare a budget when the deficit has increased significantly due to the impact of COVID-19.

“The expansionary RM67.52 million deficit is to give the best to the people and towards achieving the target to become a city-state by 2030,” he said when winding-up the debate on the bill.

Azlan (BN-Bintong) said the budget outlined four thrusts, namely the implementation of development projects, people's welfare, harmonious society and the effectiveness of the administration.

He said enforcement in state government administrative functions is one area which must be enhanced.

“I can assure that there will be no political expediency, whereby when a complaint is lodged, appropriate actions will be taken and this has been put into practice under my administration,” he said.

Azlan also said that through the budget, the state government is committed to producing more successful entrepreneurs in the state.

The state assembly sitting was adjourned to a date to be fixed later.
