Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will announce the first set of tenders for advanced works on the 37km Bandar Utama-Klang Light Rail Transit line 3 project (LRT3) in the next two to three months.
President and Group CEO Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said this includes site preparations and building of workers quarters.
It follows the letter of qualification handed over today to 24 qualified applicants for the final three system works packages, namely automatic fare collection, trackworks and conductor power rail, as well as depot equipment and track maintenance vehicle.
Among the qualified companies are Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd-Sumitomi Corporation Consortium, Beijing Sheenline Technology Co Ltd, Alstom Transport SA, Singapore Technologies Electronics Ltd, and IRIS Information Technology System Sdn Bhd Consortium.
"There will be no more packages for pre-qualification. We will award the first few packages, and subsequent to that there will be other packages to announce.
"For now it's too early to announce (other packages) because we have not completed the overall detailed design," he told a press conference after the handover ceremony.
Azmi said Prasarana has completed the concept and print designs for the LRT3 and is now working on the detailed design.
He also said Prasarana has started acquiring land involved in the project, with the whole process to be done in phases.
Meanwhile, Azmi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will launch the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line Extension project on June 30 at the Putra Heights station.
It will mark the opening of 13 new stations for Kelana Jaya line and the final two stations – Puchong Prima and Puchong Perdana – for the Sri Petaling line.
The Ampang line would only operate from Ampang station to Chan Sow Lin station from June 30, Azmi added.
