Price of Starbucks drinks to rise up to 30 cents in US

TRIPS to your local Starbucks (in the United States) are about to become a little more expensive, with the coffee chain announcing a 30 cent hike on select drinks.

After a technical glitch that prematurely added the surcharge ahead of its planned roll-out July 12, the company was forced to announce the price hike over the weekend.

"On July 12, Starbucks is planning a small price increase on select beverages," reads a statement.

"Unfortunately, that price adjustment was prematurely entered into the point of sale systems in our U.S. company-operated stores. As a result, some customers were charged incorrectly. The maximum any customer could have been overcharged is 30 cents per beverage."

It's the third time in three years that Starbucks has increased their pricing to offset rising labour costs and benefits, points out Fortune.com.

One of the major perks of working at the company is full tuition coverage in a partnership with Arizona State University.

Last year, the price of drinks rose between 5 and 20 cents.
