The services sector is expected to remain the top contributor to Selangor's Gross Domestic Product this year, said the Statistics Department.
"Economic development in Selangor is expected to continue to be driven by the services sector, which contributed 59.5 percent to Selangor's GDP in 2014 followed by manufacturing (29.5 percent), construction (6.1 percent), agriculture (1.7 percent) and the mining and quarry sector (0.2 percent)," Deputy Chief Statistician (Economic Programme) Ismail Yusoff said at a session with the business community here today.
Ismail said besides government agencies, the private sector also plays an important role in the state, especially in the hotel and tourism segments.
Meanwhile, Selangor Statistics Department director Ibrahim Jantan said this year's census of the state's economy involves 125,764 respondents in the agriculture, mining and quarry, manufacturing, construction, services as well as electricity and gas sectors.
"The large-scale census is conducted every five years to collect information on the state's economic structure and business activities, for use in the formulation of national development and economic policies.
"Respondents are urged to cooperate so that the government's planning can benefit everyone," he said.
