Taxes: Perak Customs collect RM445 million in first three months of 2017
The Perak Customs Department has collected RM335 million from local GST and RM70 million from import GST while RM40 million was from import duties.
The Perak Customs Department has collected gross revenue of RM445 million between January and March this year, said its acting director Mohd Nordin Abdullah.
He said the revenue collected were from local and import Goods and Services Tax (GST) and import duties.
"We have collected RM335 million from local GST and RM70 million from import GST while RM40 million was from import duties.
"Based on the collection so far, Perak Customs department is confident of achieving the target revenue of RM1.6 billion this year," he told reporters at the Corruption Free Pledge (IBR) signing ceremony at the department here Tuesday.
At the event, 15 officers and personnel from the department signed the IBR with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Also present were Perak MACC director Datuk Noraziah Abd Manaf and Transparency International-Malaysia president Datuk Akhbar Satar.
Meanwhile, Akhbar urged the government to conduct a detailed study to identify the cause of youth in the country to be involved in corruption.
"We are facing a crisis of integrity in the younger generation because from MACC arrest in 2015 involving 1,902 people, 55 per cent of whom are youth.
"Young people involvement in corruption could be due to the fact that they adopt lavish lifestyle beyond their means," he said. -- Bernama
