The government has approved 11 programmes under the Taxi Industry Transformation Programme (TITP) aimed at creating a fair environment for drivers, operators and industry users.
These include monitoring the e-hailing application and making the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) compulsory for taxi operators.
Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the Cabinet approved the TITP to be implemented in stages, and it would have an inclusive and comprehensive approach to resolve old issues which had plagued the industry.
"Among the programmes which will be implemented is monitoring the e-hailing application as a feeder service under the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
"The government has recognised the e-hailing service, so we have to keep up with technological changes such as this application which is based on the demands of consumers and changing times," he said at a press conference, here, today.
Syed Hamid said amendments had to be made to the Act and once passed by Parliament, the company offering the e-hailing service must be corporatised in Malaysia and all e-hailing drivers must possess a driver's card issued by SPAD.
