TPPA should not undermine Malaysia's sovereignty - Tengku Razaleigh
He said this was because there were public concerns over the possibility that the agreement would open a door for foreign power to interfere with the country's policies and laws.
The government should ensure that the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) will not undermine Malaysia's sovereignty, Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah says.
He said this was because there were public concerns over the possibility that the agreement would open a door for foreign power to interfere with the country's policies and laws.
"This is not just about the economy, social and politics, but also a matter of sovereignty of the country.
"This is what we have to consider, we can make a small profit, maybe one ringgit or two today, but what is the consequences to our sovereignty? We (our country) may be small in size, but we have our dignity," the former finance minister told reporters at the Parliament lobby here today.
Meanwhile, Tengku Razaleigh said the 2016 Budget scheduled to be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Friday was hoped to reduce the financial burden of the people in facing the depreciation in the Malaysian ringgit.
