Abdul Ghapur to continue championing Sabahans
Incumbent Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh, who at 68, is among the oldest Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates, is determined to continue to be assertive and outspoken in championing Sabahans if he were re-elected in Kalabakan.
"I will continue my struggle for Sabahans in the Dewan Rakyat, calling for more assistance and facilities to be provided to them," he said in a statement today.
Being vocal in raising issues affecting Sabahans, Abdul Ghapur, who was former Sabah deputy chief minister, won the Kalabakan parliamentary seat unopposed in the 2004 and 2008 general elections.
However, he is facing six candidates in the 13th general election. They are a PAS candidate, a Star candidate and four Independents.
"We are confident that the BN will win the seat with a big majority because wherever we went, we've got strong support from the people.
"This is because the people realised that they are enjoying progress as a result of the BN government's efforts," said Abdul Ghapur.
Abdul Ghapur was appointed federal deputy minister of resources and natural environment in 2008 but only to resign eight days later.
