Ahmad Husni suggest EC improve normal voting systems

The Election Commission (EC) needs to improve the normal voting system so as to speed up the process for the convenience and comfort of voters.

Perak Barisan Nasional deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah suggested this after seeing the slow process at a number of polling stations in the Tambun parliamentary constituency today.

He said the long queues moved at a very slow pace as the voters' finger had to be stained with indelible ink, which took some time, before they could put their ballot papers into the box.

"At some polling streams, the ink was used from the same bottle, hence slowing down the process while at other streams, two bottles were used which was better," he told reporters, here, today.

He said the EC also had to consider the weather condition, so the elderly and unwell voters needed to be provided with a rest room and drinks.

He also suggested that the EC provide medical service in consideration of emergency situations and those feeling unwell.

"Comfort for voters should be given priority so that the voting process could speed up. The EC has to find ways for this," he said.

Earlier, Ahmad Husni and his wife Datin Seri Fauziah Kamarudin cast their votes at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jati in Meru, here, at 12.20pm.

Accompanying them were his father, Mohamad Hanadzlah Abdul Khalid, 93, who came in a wheelchair.

Ahmad Husni, who has been the incumbent for the Tambun seat for four terms, is being challenged by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail, this time.

In the 2008 general election, he defeated PKR's Mohamad Asri Othman with a 5,386-vote majority.

The Tambun parliamentary seat has 89,435 registered voters.
