Perak Barisan Nasional (BN), which formed the government with a simple majority having won 31 of the 59 state seats, has vowed to form a better state government.

Perak BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, said he would emphasise on the workings of the state administration and not just focus on politics.

"We (BN) brothers have to work harder in promoting politics of moderation, avoid extremism and factionalism in politics. It doesn't send a good signal as we are living in a multiracial country and we need representation from everyone," he told reporters at the Menteri Besar's official residence here.

He said it was still too early to analyse the results of the voting in GE13 but BN would nevertheless undertake a detailed of GE13 in view BN only won in Malay-majority areas.

On the candidates who lost in three parliamentary seats, i.e., Lumut, Taiping and Kampar, he said they lost in areas where the majority of the voters were Chinese.

"(Datuk Seri) Kong Cho Ha lost the Sitiawan state seat by a wide margin, while narrow losses were recorded in the Pasir Panjang and Pangkor state seats.

"Apparently, the win was only in Malay areas in Pangkor and Pasir panjang, but it was not enough to offset the loss at the Sitiawan state seat," he said.

Zambry said BN accepted the people's decision made during a smooth democratic process and hoped that all political parties would accept it well.

"Like I said before the state assembly was dissolved, we will respect the decision of whoever wins, (Perak DAP chairman) (Datuk) Ngeh (Koo Ham) said if he wins we will respect the decision and I replied that I will do likewise if he wins. I think this is a gentleman's agreement," he said.

Asked on on how stable the state government would be with just a three-seat majority, Zambry said what was important was to manage a government.

Zambry said that he would seek an audience with Perak Sultan, Sultan Azlan Shah soon on BN forming the state government.

Meanwhile, PAS Perak Deputy Commssioner, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, said the opposition would respect the people's decision and graciously accept defeat.

He said Pakatan would do a post-mortem following the defeat this time and seek legal redress for seats which they lost by a slim margin.

In GE13, the opposition coalition only won 28 seats.

Meanwhile, in Lumut, Kong accepted his defeat to First Admiral (Rtd) Mohamad Imran Abdul Hamid, with an open heart and urged all voters to accept the decision.
