The Barisan Nasional (BN) is committed to providing greater efficiency in public transportation for the people, with plans to expand the Rapid Bus System to every state capital, complete with facilities for the aged and the disabled.
The coalitions is also committed to building integrated bus, rail and taxi terminals in all towns and cities, as well as continue expanding the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), LRT and commuter rail systems.
These are contained in the BN manifesto themed 'A Promise of Hope' unveiled by Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil tonight, ahead of the upcoming 13th general election.
Najib had announced the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat on April 3.
Listing the BN's commitment if it is given another five-year mandate, the manifesto said other initiatives to improve public transportation include re-routing buses to ensure more efficient and accessible services for the people, and increasing individual taxi permits.
There is also the pledge to implement the national high speed rail network and expand the double-tracking railway system.
The manifesto pointed out the various initiatives already being taken by the BN government to bring the country's transport system to another level.
The BN, it said, had injected 478 new buses into RapidKL and introduced six Bus Expressway Transit routes to significantly reduce travel time on public buses.
The document said the BN government had expanded high quality bus transport services through RapidKL, RapidPenang, and RapidKuantan.
In addition, it had provided access to soft loans for inter-city, mini and school bus operators through the RM150-million Public Transport Fund managed by the SME Bank.
