BN retains Negeri Sembilan with simple majority

Barisan Nasional (BN) was returned to power in Negeri Sembilan after winning a simple majority, that is, 22 of the 36 state legislative assembly (DUN) seats in the general election yesterday.
This was one seat more than the 21 seats won by the BN in the 2008 general election.
The BN won the Pertang, Sungai Lui, Klawang, Serting, Palong, Jeram Padang, Lenggeng, Ampangan, Juasseh, Seri Menanti, Senaling, Pilah, Johol, Labu, Paroi, Chembong, Rantau, Kota, Bagan Pinang, Linggi, Gemencheh and Gemas state legislative assembly seats.
Meanwhile, the opposition won 14 state seats of which 11 were won by the DAP namely Chennah, Nilai, Lobak, Temiang, Bukit Kepayang, Rahang, Mambau, Senawang, Lukut, Bahau and Repah while the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) won three seats namely Sikamat, Chuah and Port Dickson.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan retained the Rantau state seat when he polled 10,126 votes, beating his opponent from PKR, Aisah Lamsah who garnered 5,513 votes.
Speaking to reporters at the Menteri Besar's official residence, here after the official announcement of the results by the Election Commission, Mohamad said the victory represented the continuous mandate from the people who wanted the BN government to administer the state.
He said although the representatives from the BN component, MCA, did not win any of the seats contested, the Chinese community in the state would continue to be looked after and would not be marginalised.
He said he would seek an audience with Yang Dipertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, this afternoon on the formation of the state government.
"However, it will depend on the Tuanku's schedule and we will not be hasty in this matter," he said.
Meanwhile for the parliamentary seats, BN won five while the opposition won three seats through the DAP (two seats) and PKR (one).
BN won the Tampin parliamentary seat through Datuk Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor; Jempol (Tan Sri Mohd. Isa Abd. Samad); Kuala Pilah (Datuk Hasan Malek); Rembau (Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar) and Jelebu (Zainuddin Ismail).
Meanwhile, the opposition retained the same parliamentary seats as the last election, namely Seremban and Rasah through the DAP, while PKR retained Telok Kemang.
BN veteran Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad won the Jempol parliamentary seat polling 31,109 votes to beat PAS candidate Wan Aishah Wan Ariffin (Aishah) who garnered 22,495 votes.
However, all the PAS candidates lost in both the parliamentary and state assembly seats contested.
