The key for Barisan Nasional (BN) to win the hearts of the people in the upcoming 13th General Election (GE13) is to provide consistent and efficient services to the people, said Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar .
Wan Junaidi, who is also the MP of Santubong, said the two are not just in tune with the 1Malaysia ‘people first, performance now’ policy, but indirectly it brushes off the voters’ negative perceptions towards the representatives.
“It’s an approach which I myself mention as ‘approaching the people’. I have never used the word ‘go to the ground’ as mentioned by the media. It’s not like I’m going there to play tennis or football.
“I go the kampongs, to their backyards and discuss closely with the folks (their problems),” he said during an interview with Astro Awani in Kuching recently.
Wan Junaidi highlighted that prioritising the people is a principal that needs to be applied by every Member of Parliament (MP) if they want the people’s support.
During the previous general election, Wan Junaidi defeated PKR candidate Rahamat Idil with an 11,945 majority. As a result, he became a MP for the fifth term.
Wan Junaidi started becoming a representative after the 1990 election when he was chosen as the MP for Batang Lupar.
After three terms as Batang Lupar’s MP, he contested and won the Santubong parliamentary seat in 2004 and 2008.
