The police have begun investigations into two ‘explosives device’ found at a DAP campaign operations tent in Kepong earlier and in Seri Kembangan this morning.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said that this was as serious matter as it can cause public fear where Malaysians go to the polls on Sunday.
“There are those among us who think this is fun, but it’s not, especially now that we will be going to vote soon. These kinds of things can scare people. We will investigate this thoroughly and take stern action against those responsible,” Khalid told reporters.
Earlier today, a party worker was shocked to find a box with a word “Awas! Bom!” written on it near the party operations room at about 7am and made a report about one hour later.
Police rushed to the scene, in Pekan Jinjang Utara, and its bomb squad, with a robot, defused the item.
Within the box, about the size of a car battery, was a tin with wires and filled with black powder. It is believed to be an explosive device.
“We want to know what are the contents of these items, so let the bomb experts investigate first and we will know if they are explosives or what,” said Khalid.
The incident will be investigated under Section 3 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
Sentul police chief ACP Zakaria Pagan urged the residents in the nearby areas not to panic and assured that daily activities can continue.
Meanwhile, in Seri Kembangan, The Star online reported that another parcel, marked “bomb”, was found near a stall.
Serdang police chief ACP Abdul Razak Elias said the parcel was found by the stall owner, and was detonated by the bomb squad.
Police are reportedly investigating whether the same individuals are behind the two incidents.
