The Election Commission (EC) is ready to manage the 13th general election if Parliament is dissolved today.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd. Yusof said that there are no issues running the democratic process if the prime minister announces the dissolution today.
However, he admitted that at this time, the EC was still in the midst of streamlining a few aspects of the election.
"If parliament is dissolved today, there is enough time for preparations because EC has 60 days after that (to hold the elections)," said Aziz in a SMS message to Astro Awani.
Aziz was commenting on the widespread speculation that the Parliament will be dissolved today.
According to EC records, the mandate of the Dewan Rakyat will automatically end on April 30 2013.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, on Thursday met with the all BN component party leaders and state liaison committee chairman to finalise the division of seats and choosing the candidates.
The closed-door meeting is being described by political observers as a strong sign that parliament will be dissolved in the near future.
