Indelible ink creates buzz, EC reacts on easy removal claims

The Election Commission (EC) has brushed off the allegation that the indelible ink used on voters during this year's election, can be washed off completely.

EC deputy chairman, Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the indelible ink does rub off to a certain extent but it does not completely disappear. He added that the issue will not deter the election process.

“We are also denying that the indelible ink is insufficient as we still have a lot of it in our stock,” he told Astro AWANI.

He also cautioned the public to not give a bad name to the EC.

However, when AstroAWANI spoke to some voters, they said they were shocked to see the ink could be rubbed off easily after casting their vote.

Fikri Aqmal Kamaruddin, 23, who cast his vote for Titiwangsa parliamentary seat at SK Kampung Baru early this morning, said the indelible ink that was marked on his left finger did rub off ultimately.

“I try to wash it using hand soap and it did actually rub that blue ink off of my finger,” he said.

Another voter, Tufayl Manap, 24, who cast his vote for Gombak parliamentary and Hulu Kelang state seat at SAR Taman Melawati said the ink that was marked on his finger is slowly fading away after he rub it off with tissue.
