Indonesia congratulates Malaysia on GE13 success

Indonesia congratulates Malaysia on the successful conduction of its general election, expecting further improvement of bilateral ties with the neighbouring country, Xinhua news agency reported Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister, Marty Natalegawa a saying here on Monday.

"We have to congratulate the people of Malaysia for holding the election successfully. All countries in the region were following the conduction of the election that ended Sunday night," the minister said on the sidelines of his meeting with visiting Mozambique Foreign Affairs Minister Oldemiro Baloi in his office here.

He said the process of election in Malaysia would empower democracy architecture in the region as Malaysia is part of Asean, adding that the successful election in Malaysia has showed the improving democracy pillar in Asean.

"The development of Asean political community has been fantastic and exceptional," Xinhua quoted him as saying.

In Sunday's election, Barisan Nasional was returned to power when it won 133 of the 222 parliamentary seats to form the new federal government.
