MCA today urged voters in Johor not to vote for Lim Kit Siang, describing the DAP advisor as a “runaway MP” for leaving his current parliamentary seat in Ipoh Timur in Perak to contest in Gelang Patah in Johor.
MCA National Organising Secretary Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said that the people should ‘avoid voting for political deserters’ and ‘teach Kit Siang a lesson’ by “letting him taste defeat like that of the 1999 General Election when he lost his seat in Penang.”
“The people should avoid voting for political deserters as this is unfair to them, because it means that these politicians are only using the people with their talks of political democracy but not bothering to serve them,” said Tee in a press statement today.
The Pulai Sebatang(Johor) state assemblyman said that Lim is well known for deserting his constituents by changing seats frequently.
“Throughout his many years as a politician, he has contested in Melaka, Selangor, Penang, and Perak,” said Tee, noting that these places were all Chinese-majority constituencies.
Tee claimed that Lim has failed to provide good services to his constituencies as he changes seats “as though he is changing shirts”.
“Thus he has failed his responsibility of looking out for his people by placing his own political interest first before them.”
“He claims that this is meant to improve the morale of DAP members but the actual truth is that he wants to seek bigger wins, and so he runs away to contest in other seats.”
Tee asked Lim to be brave enough to accept Batu Pahat MP Mohd Puad Zarkashi’s challenge and contest in a Malay majority-area to prove that DAP is a multiracial party.
Tee said that despite winning seven times out of the 10 general elections Lim has been part of between 1968 to 2008, Lim has not actively worked.
