MIC FT supports Saravanan's call

MIC is throwing its support behind the party’s vice- president Datuk M. Saravanan’s call to not support Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Shah Alam Zulkifli Noordin following the latter’s racist insult about Hindus’ God.

Federal Territory MIC information chief Anbumani Balan said Saravanan’s call is timely as everybody in this country must respect each other’s race and religion.

“Indians are angry with Zulkifli’s statement. There is no reason to forgive him. The government has to listen to the Indian community’s voice from the grassroot,” he told Astro Awani.

Anbumani said this is not the first time someone is let go easily after making racist remarks.

He said the same happened to Dr Ridhuan Tee Abdullah whose racist remarks were published in an article on the Sinar Harian.

“Every time they do this, we have to accept their apology? The government is working hard to win the votes of Indians. This kind of things are only giving negative impact.

“We are not against BN or Umno. We are only against Zulkifli. We do not accept his apology,” he said.

Meanwhile, former MIC president Datuk Seri Samy Vellu refused to comment on the matter when contacted.

On Thursday, Saravanan said he will never forgive Zulkifli.

“I will continue to tell Indians not to vote for him, he doesn’t deserve their votes.

“If I were to say something disrespectful towards Muslims or their beliefs and then apologise, do you think they will accept it?” he reportedly said.

In an old video clipping which surfaced recently, Zulkifli had questioned the Hindu concept of God and mocked the Ganges River, which is considered sacred by Hindus.

“I have been to Sungai Ganga before. How can you say it’s pure? There are chicken carcasses and small sticks floating,” Zulkifli had said in the video clip.

He has since apologised for his remarks.
