Najib chairs Pekan Umno meeting

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today chaired the Pekan Umno division committee meeting which focused on its final preparations for the 13th general election on May 5.

The closed-door meeting which took 45 minutes, was also attended by the division's deputy chairman, Datuk Ishak Mohamad.

According to the division's Youth deputy head, Muhamad Sharif Al-Din Ahmad, Najib who is also Pekan Umno chief and Pekan incumbent MP, urged all the Pekan Umno election machinery to play their respective role well to ensure the constituency would remain a Barisan Nasional stronghold.

Asked whether the meeting also discussed about candidates, he said with a grin: "We only know who the candidate for Pekan is."

There are four state seats in the Pekan parliamentary constituency, namely Bebar, Pulau Manis, Peramu Jaya and Chini.

Muhamad Sharif said Pekan Umno Youth was fully prepared for the general election and would also fully support the candidates chosen by the party's top leadership.

"We will go all out to ensure a big win for Barisan Nasional here," he added.
