All political parties taking part in the 13th General Election have been reminded to not put their flags or display campaign posters at any police stations or premises of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
Assistant Head of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Secretariat (Public Relations), ACP Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said all political party workers are not allowed to put their election campaigns, posters and or flags at any police stations and premises belong to PDRM in the election frenzy.
“We have to remind people that we are a neutral organisation. We will not be involved or photographed to be related to any general election campaign with any political parties.
"It is unwise for the police to be seen rolling with any political parties as they are only bound by the law and regulations without any discrimination and prejudice," Ramli told reporters at Bukit Aman this morning.
Ramli also commented on an incident in Perlis yesterday where police had to take down several flags and campaign posters of a political party after it was found on a premise belonging to PDRM.
He also warned political thugs who try to create unrest during election, that they will face stern action from the police.
A total of 631 police reports have been lodged in relation to the general election and 88 of them were lodged yesterday.
“Among those reported include criminal intimidation, arson, rioting and assault committed in relation with political campaigning during this pre-election period,” he said.
These also include a criminal intimidation case of a political party secretary in Klang and an arson case of a political party operation room in Sri Iskandar.
Meanwhile four suspects who are believed to be involved in an assault case of a political party worker in Kemaman last week have been charged in court today.
As of yesterday, 313 political activities have been recorded throughout the country, 122 of them are public speeches, 43 are political party meetings, 18 political campaign, five door-to-door visit and 125 are other related activities.
