Pakatan Rakyat unveiled general election manifesto

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has launched his party's alliance's election manifesto during its 4th national congress, as the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition hopes to oust the government in the upcoming general election.

The manifesto, which is themed Pakatan Harapan Rakyat, will centre around the PR's economic and social blueprint - the Buku Jingga or Orange Book.

The manifesto was presented by PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli, PAS research head Dzulkefly Ahmad and DAP's M Kulasegaran, and was launched in the Shah Alam Convention Centre.

The manifesto consists of four thrusts: The People's Well-being; The Fraternity of the People; The People's Economy; and The People's Government.

Among the things it promised in the manifesto include: lower oil prices, lower electricity charges, lower water charges, abolishing tolls, cheaper cars, abolishing PTPTN and others.

In an effort to boost the national productivity, a minimum wage system will be implemented.

As stated in the manifesto, “a minimum wage will be introduced so that no Malaysia is paid wages below what the cost of living demands.”

In terms of education, PR plans to set up five technical universities within ten years and 25 vocational schools as part of its effort to “shift the focus to uplift the role of school leavers in the labour force to drive the national economy.”

Other matters include restructuring the automotive policy by abolishing excise duty and producing cars for as low as RM25,000.
