PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has confirmed that she will not be competing for any seats in the upcoming general elections.
Wan Azizah, the wife of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said that the decision not to compete was not a sign of her unhappiness of the party.
"I will not be contesting for any seats in the coming general election. In fact, I want to put all my efforts to help the party to campaign during this period," said Wan Azizah in a press conference today.
Prior to Wan Azizah's confirmation today, it was speculated that she may contest a state seat in Selangor.
Wan Azizah cannot contest for a parliamentary seat because she has not completed the mandatory five-year prohibition having resigned as an MP.
She had quit as an MP on July 31, 2008, to enable Anwar to contest the Permatang Pauh parliamentary in a by-election.
