The water problems in Saratok will be settled with the allocation of RM8.8 million for the purpose of upgrading the piping system in the area.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the amount would be used for the replacement of old pipes that are damaged.

He said the allocation would ensure that the residents will have continuous supply of clean water.

''This is part of the ‘AkuJanji’ to solve water problems Saratok,'' he said.

Najib said that during a breakfast session with the people of Saratok after being informed by local leaders of the problem.

Previously, more than 10,000 people in the Saratok, Awik and Krian have been complaining of difficulty of obtaining clean water supply in their area.

More than 8,000 local residents gathered to celebrate Najib's visit.

Earlier in his speech, Najib announced an additional allowance contribution to Saratok’s special charity organisation.

It follows the announcement by Saratok Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom should he win the seat.

The Saratok P205 seat sees a three-cornered fight between Mawan, PKR's Ali Biju and Independent candidate, Datuk Rosli Lek.
