"We will arrrest those who try to vote for second time" - EC
Individuals caught trying to vote for the second time will face 12 months' jail and up to RM5,000 fine under the Election Offences Act 1954.
Electoral Commission (EC) deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the individuals hauled up for impersonation will be barred from voting for five years.
Double voting would not happen, he said responding to comments on social sites on doubts raised over the indelible ink used for early voting today.
Wan Ahmad said names of voters who voted will be deleted by election agent and EC staff and will undergo special screening to avoid double voting.
"So even if he wants to cheat, his name is not there. The agent has put a cross to his name as with the EC. There is no way for him to vote and if he comes, he will be arrested," he told a press conference here today.
