Jagat and Ola Bola are among the local films that participated in foreign film festivals.
A total of 30 local films participated in 17 international film festivals so far, said Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari.
He said among the films were Jagat, Munafik, Ola Bola and Polis Evo.
"The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) also proposed to submit the film, Redha, to take up in the international film festival in the foreign language category for the Oscar Awards next year," he said when replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrasid (BN-Kota Tinggi) at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.
Noor Ehsanuddin wanted to know the success achieved up to date since the National Creative Industry Fund was introduced.
Jailani said the local film market generated sales revenue of RM57.6 million so far this year.
Earlier Jailani said for the period 2010 until 2014, the Basic Creative Industry project managed to generate 28,799 new jobs based on investments of about RM684.8 million and media sales of RM11.29 million.
He said the creative industry had contributed to the national economic growth including music and performing arts, design, animation, advertising and development.
"In addition, the Content Malaysia Pitching Centre (CMPC) established in 2015, is among the ministry's initiatives to help in the country's creative industry's development," he added. -- Bernama
