The US TV network's medical and political dramas, as well as "How To Get Away With Murder," "Modern Family," "Once Upon a Time" and "Agents of Shield," have all bagged a place in ABC's fall 2016 line-up.
However, the network is still to decide whether its "Castle" crime drama will return for another season.
With two months to go until the network unveils its Fall 2016 schedule, ABC has renewed 11 series in one fell swoop.
Shonda Rhimes' creations, which include "Grey's Anatomy" shown on Thursday nights in the USA, are sure to return next season. Fans of "Grey's Anatomy" will be able to follow the Seattle surgeons for a 13th season.
Olivia Pope – played by Kerry Washington – will return in a sixth season of "Scandal," and the law students in "How To Get Away With Murder" can enjoy a third season of class with their professor, played by Viola Davis.
Other hit series renewed for Fall 2016 include comedies "Modern Family" and "The Middle," both back for an eighth season. "Black-ish" and "Fresh Off the Boat" will be returning for a third season each, with "Once Upon a Time" getting a sixth season and "Agents of Shield" a fourth season. Freshman drama "Quantico" will be back on screens for a second season.
As yet, the future remains undecided for "Castle," "Nashville," "Galavant," "American Crime," "Agent Carter," "The Muppets," "Last Man Standing" and "Dr Ken," which haven't yet been renewed by the network. For the moment, it's unclear whether these series will be joining the list of 11 renewals on the Fall schedule or whether they'll be axed alongside "Blood and Oil" and "Wicked City."
ABC has plenty in store for fall 2016, with 24 pilots on order – more than any of its competitors. The network has already signed up for a full series of "Designated Survivor," a new political drama with Kiefer Sutherland, and is developing a spin-off series of "Agents of Shield" called "Marvel's Most Wanted."
Other projects in the pipeline include legal drama "The Jury," "Still Star-Crossed" – a kind of "Romeo and Juliet" sequel – and "Time After Time," focusing on H.G. Wells.
