Local film director and comedian, Afdlin Shauki will work with a director from Hollywood for a film project about the history of Sabah.

Afdlin and Roger Christian will be joining forces to produce a film that tells the dark incident in Sabah during the World War II that is known as the 'Sandakan Death Marches'.

Hugh Jackman is rumored to be the lead actor for the film.

However there’s still no confirmation on the matter.

The production team is planning to launch the film during the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.

This film tells about the story of thousands of Australian and British soldiers who were forced by the Japanese to walk as far as 140 km from Sandakan to Ranau which is located in Mount Kinabalu.

Many soldiers were killed or left to die during the journey and only six Australian soldiers survived.

The film is being produced under the auspices of the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) with a capital of RM3 million of which RM1 million will be funded by the government.

In the meantime, director Christian, spent three months in Sabah to make a detailed study of WWII atrocity.

He also interviewed local residents to get a better understanding of the incident.
