Aliff Omar Ali Bakar, 32 and Nur Athira Syed Azmi, tied the knot in a low-key yet colourful solemnisation ceremony at the Shah Alam Convention Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor on Friday.
As invited guests at the hall looked on, a group of bridesmaids and groomsmen decked in Malay traditional attire arrived with 12 trays of hantaran (gifts) for the bride and groom at approximately 10.40am.
The proceedings continued with a poem recital by the master of ceremony Mohamad Khamidon Sadi.
Aliff, looking every bit the distinguished groom in a silver satin baju Melayu, was a picture of calm.
At approximately 11.10am, Aliff recited the lafaz nikah (marriage pledge) in front of Nur Athira’s father Datuk Syed Azmi Tan Sri Datuk Syed Othman and Ustaz Muhammad Ariffin Mohd Dalhal, Selangor Religious Department Registrar of Marriage, Divorce.

A tad nervous, Aliff was all smiles after he recited the lafaz nikah for the second time which was followed by a doa recital from the guests.
This was witnessed by Aliff’s father, Ali Bakar, Mohamed Yusof Abdul Rahman and Abdul Rahman Hussein.
Aliff’s family was represented by Datuk Haji Zaghlol Haji Hanafiah and Haji Mohd Said Haji Omar.
After the ceremony, Aliff slid a gold bracelet on Nur Athira’s hand before kissing her forehead.

Nur Athira presented Aliff with a ring before kissing his hands.
Aliff, who had remained calm up to that point then embraced Ali and his family members including his stepmother, Zalinda Haron, uncle Datuk Aziz Bakar and his stepsisters and stepbrothers.
At the akad nikah ceremony, Aliff presented Nur Athira with ‘hantaran’ which included five trays of gifts including a pair of shoes, a perfume set, a handbag and chocolates.
Nur Athira gave back seven trays of gifts including a watch set, a GoPro camera, fruits and a cake.

Nur Athira and her entourage, escorted by her mother, Zailinda Haji Harun looked resplendent and arrived 15 minutes later before proceeding to the white dais.
The ceremony was attended by an approximately 100 guests comprising family, relatives and close friends.
Aliff, a tahfiz student in Madinah, met Nur Athirah, who is a dentist, about two years ago.
They were engaged in a low-key ceremony in Shah Alam on August 23 before Aliff left for Madinah to continue with his studies.

Aziz (Bakar), who was met after the ceremony had ended, said he was grateful that everything had gone smoothly.
“His mother would be smiling if she had been here. It was her final wish to see Aliff end his bachelorhood," said Aziz.
Indeed, it would have been Aliff’s legendary singer-mother, Datuk Sharifah Aini’s wish to witness her only son wed his sweetheart.
Sharifah Aini, fondly known as Kak Pah to her fans and friends, passed away after suffering from lung fibrosis at the Damansara Specialist Hospital on July 5.
According to a source close to the family, Tok Pah had met Nur Athira and gave her blessing for Aliff to wed her.
The couple will host a reception at an undisclosed venue in Selangor tomorrow (Saturday).
After the reception, Aliff will leave for Madinah to complete his studies while Nur Athirah will continue to practice dentistry at a clinic in Selangor.
