ANTOINE Fuqua, director of upcoming Western "The Magnificent Seven", "Training Day", and "The Equalizer" is reportedly in the running to direct Universal's remake of the iconic crime film "Scarface".
A number of other directors have previously been courted for the film, including "Harry Potter" director David Yates and "No" director Pablo Larrain.
The latest reincarnation of the immigrant rags-to-riches story is expected to follow the same plot, but will be set in Los Angeles, as opposed to the Chicago setting for the original 1932 film, and the 1983 remake with Al Pacino in the lead role, which took place in 1980s Miami.
Jonathan Herman penned the most recent draft, with the upcoming feature to be produced by Marc Shmuger, Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark. Marty Bregman, producer of the 1983 "Scarface" film, is also attached to produce.
